Beirut-born El-Khazen is a seasoned, versatile guitarist who has, in the past 20 years, accumulated a portfolio that has catapulted him from a local guitar celebrity in the mid 90’s to one of the most prolific producers/composers/guitarists in the Arab world today.
During his time at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Raed met one of the great musicians he collaborates with to this day; Daniele Camarda. Their musical partnership started in 1998 and continues to grow globally, 18 years later.
Throughout the years they both played with a variety of great musicians including Jojo Meyer, Keith Karlock, Ari Hoening, Avishai Cohen, Lionel loueke, John Hicks, Kermit Driscol, Dave Binney, and many more. In addition, during the last few years, Daniele has been focusing on Sound Act, his electroacoustic solo performance for 7 Strings & Laptop, performing it worldwide, and collaborated with Tim Berne, Markus Stockhausen, Sebastian Muller and Vardan Ovsepian.
He is currently a faculty member at the Siena Jazz University. Their current project is a combination of their love for the American songbook and their vision to always give any material a personal twist, producing a sound that is both fed by their present experiences and fueled by works of the past.
REK: Jazz Standards with a Mediterranean Flair! Joining them on this venture is Italian drummer Carmine Casciello and Lebanese trumpet player Walid Sadek. Carmine Casciello has accumulated an impressive portfolio playing with the likes of Larry Grenadier, Kenny Werner, Stefano Battaglia, Franco D’Andrea, Furio Di Castri, and Rita Marcotulli, despite his young age. He is currently pareparing for his debut record. Walid Sadek remains one of Raed’s favorite trumpeters and artists. Walid is the Assistant Chair of the Fine Arts Department at the American University of Beirut and a very active member of the arts circles in the Arab World.
